Do you want to hire the right candidate for your organisation? Are your interviews failing to produce enough reliable information to pick the right person?
Selecting staff with the right skills, knowledge, and attitude is important for building the best and brightest teams.
Explore how to select the right staff in this HR and manager’s guide to interviewing skills and selection.
Course Overview
This virtual course explores how to assess a candidate’s suitability for a role, with a focus on interviewing skills in person, by phone, or online.
Participants will practise asking the right questions to deduct a candidate’s skill level and assess attitudes and values. Identify three types of interview questions - situational, competency-based and behavioural questions.
Prepare for selection using competency mapping to identify the skills, knowledge and attitudes required, and set up a process to validate the selection decision.
Research shows that interviews are often no more reliable than tossing a coin. Find out how to identify and manage unconscious biases, which can lead to the wrong hiring decisions. Detect possible deception and toxic behaviours in interviews and reference checking.
Explore other reliable selection methods – ask the candidate to perform tasks or engage in a pre-employment trial.
Our employment lawyer presenter will show you to comply with the law when conducting pre-employment checks. Avoid costly mistakes that can lead to unlawful discrimination and privacy breaches.
What to expect?
This virtual course is an interactive seminar with Q&A and case scenarios. Attending this course will give you a comprehensive overview on how to select talent and improve your interviewing skills.
Concepts and theories will be explained by your presenter Julia Shallcrass, then applied in case scenarios and group activities. Attendees can ask questions in our Q&A and connect with other attendees in activities. Attendees will receive a digital workbook, which sets out activities and guidance on selection processes and interviewing techniques.
