AUCKLAND | Inclusive Hiring: including people with Down syndrome at work
- Duration: 1 hour
- Region: Auckland
Join HRNZ Auckland Branch Committee in a discussion on making hiring more inclusive for people with learning disabilities.
October is international Down syndrome awareness month and the 2022 theme is inclusion. New Zealanders with Down syndrome have so much to offer to employers but sadly aren’t always included in mainstream employment. While there can be a lot of nervousness around bringing someone with Down syndrome on board into companies, we know that there is huge value to having different people in your workplace, to enhance culture, teamwork and fostering belonging.
During this session we’ll share a little about Down syndrome, provide tips for creating a more inclusive hiring process for people with Down syndrome and/or learning disabilities, we’ll also share case studies from employers who’ve hired people with Down syndrome and hear from someone with Down syndrome about their experience of work.
The beauty of inclusive design is that these inclusive practices won’t just benefit candidates with Down syndrome or learning disabilities, they’ll support in creating a more inclusive process and better hiring experience for other diverse groups and all candidates.
Although this is a complimentary event for all to attend, we would welcome a koha (donation) to The New Zealand Down Syndrome Association. This can be done at the time of registration.
A Zoom link and joining instructions will be sent the day prior to the event or accessed through your Eventbrite account.
