An increasing number of New Zealand organisations are realising the importance of diversity and inclusion, particularly at senior levels. However, New Zealand remains one of the lowest-ranked countries worldwide for women in senior leadership positions.

The aim of this session is to share research-informed insights on New Zealand women leaders’ experiences at work. Areas covered span the contributions of executive coaching, mentorship, and sponsorship to women leaders’ career progression and satisfaction, and the impact of organisational culture on their sense of meaningful work. Further, the session will delve into the importance of, and approaches to, fostering engagement at work and supporting women to achieve performance targets, factors that emerged as key drivers of self-belief as leaders and career satisfaction.

During the second half of the session, the speaker will facilitate a discussion of the role of HR/OD professionals in managing obstacles and creating opportunities for women in leadership in a post-pandemic environment, and apply an intersectional lens to the recommendations that emerge from this discussion.

Attendees are invited to share insights, challenges, and dilemmas from their practice as managers/consultants supporting women’s careers, or first-person experiences as women leaders.
