About our Presenter
Sara Towers is the Talent and Skills Manager at the Central Economic Development Agency - CEDA. Prior to joining CEDA 18 months ago, Sara had been involved in tertiary education for 20 years, working her way up from tutoring hospitality, tourism and communication at Wintec to senior leadership positions, including leading a team of 45 people. It was then onto the University of Waikato, supporting learners and businesses with Work Integrated Learning, including paid summer internships. Life before tertiary education was 15 years in the hospitality industry in New Zealand, Australia and the UK and running her own hospitality business.
Working is not just about ‘the job’, it involves so much more of us as individuals as we all navigate the world of work and careers and life; change, leadership, redundancy, work life balance, flexible working, professional development, children, divorce, death and so much more. The world of work is complex and is an ever-changing landscape for all of us invested in this ecosystem, along with the expectations of employers, businesses, and individuals.
For the Manawatu we, along with the rest of New Zealand are paddling our wakas in a very tight labour market, that some sectors are describing as a crisis and at the same time navigating the complexities that a pandemic has thrown at us. Sara will share with you the work the CEDA team are undertaking in the Talent and Skills space to support the regions sectors to attract and retain talent and skills.
