Do you want to learn how to manage increased sick leave entitlements and reduce absenteeism?
Sick leave entitlements have increased under minimum legislation. High rates of sick leave and absenteeism are costly and disruptive for New Zealand employers.
In this live and virtual half day course, address factors that contribute to sick leave, like bullying and stress to reduce the risk of sickness.
Do you have concerns about staff throwing “sickies” and abuse of sick leave?
We will answer questions like: Why should you engage in “carefrontation” with staff? When can you ask for a medical certificate? How can you use staff medical information and comply with privacy laws?
In this practical course, find out how to update your sick leave policies to comply with changes to the law.
When can you require a staff member to take sick leave? We will cover an employer’s obligations to comply with health and safety during COVID-19.
Find out how to manage sick leave for remote workers, including staff isolating or working from home. Discuss ways to encourage staff to take time off when they are sick to reduce presenteeism, which has a huge impact on NZ workforce productivity.
Do you have staff unable to work for long periods due to illness or injury? If your staff are frequently absent from work or on long term sick leave, what can you do?
We will guide you on your legal obligations and best practice, so you can communicate with absent staff, seek medical information, and support their return to work.
If extended sick leave is disrupting the workplace, you are not expected to continue to employ indefinitely.
Find out when and how you can terminate employment for medical incapacity, with case law and examples.
Attendees will receive a digital workbook including activities and can ask questions virtually during the live seminar. This course involves Q&A and activities for you to discuss in small groups. We will explore case studies to show you how to deal with real issues.
