Collective Bargaining is becoming more and more important in New Zealand, and HR professionals should be as prepared as possible going in. This course will cover a combination of legislative framework, the legal requirements in practice, case studies, group discussion and application of information to a case scenario.

Prior to the course, participants will receive the background information for the fictional business to familiarize themselves with. This may include a previous CA and information about the current issues for the business and union involvement.

The course day will run as follows:

Introduction to bargaining in New Zealand, its historical context and how it has evolved to what we have today. Presenters will then run through an overview of the bargaining process - A broad description of the stages of bargaining and how they fit together to form the whole.

Attendees will then learn about the bargaining process stage by stage, including statutory requirements, employer obligations, communication with employees and unions, best practice, good faith during bargaining, and application to the case scenario

The day will also include a union perspective regarding bargaining in NZ, members' expectations and trends they are seeing, plus an opportunity for Q&A.

About the Presenter

Paul Diver

Paul Diver is a highly experienced negotiator, leadership and business team facilitator, organisation development and change consultant and employment relations advocate/adviser.

Paul established Three60 Consult (formerly Paul Diver Associates) Employment Relations consulting business in 1991.

Paul has represented and advocated for employers across a wide range of business and organisation sectors since 1979 and has been consistently successful in creating high level results for those clients. Paul and the team currently negotiate or advise on the negotiation of a large number of Collective Agreements across a wide range of industries.

Paul has an LLB and is an Associate of the Arbitrators' and Mediators Institute of New Zealand, and a member of the Employment Law Institute of New Zealand.

  • An appropriate substitute participant is welcome any time before the course or webinar starts. Please let us know the replacement's name. If you have booked on a member price and a non member is to attend in your place you will be invoiced for the difference in price.
  • A refund of fees will be made if a cancellation is received in writing at least 10 working days prior to the commencement of the course or webinar.
  • Regrettably, no refunds can be made for cancellations received after this date and you are liable for the full cost of attendance at the course or webinar.
