When employment issues arise, a suggestion is often made that the parties attend mediation. While mediation is normally voluntary, if approached correctly, it can be very effective in resolving employment relationship problems at an early stage. Mediators are skilled at facilitating discussions between the parties and helping them to identify issues and potential solutions.
However, the prospect of mediation can also be daunting and can feel like a 'mini trial'. You may not know what to expect, what the other party really wants, or whether the other party will bring a lawyer. To get the most out of mediation, preparation is key.
Please join us for a practical session in which Lance Peterson, Mediator will cover:
- Working through a mock mediation process.
- Mediation "Dos" and "Don'ts"
- Understanding the mediation process to get the outcome you want.

Lance Peterson is a name known probably by most of you as he was previously a Mediator for Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment for over 13 years and is now a HR Consultant and Mediator with Grow HR. He will be joined by Gretchen Stone of Harrison Stone and Kerry Tattersall a Senior HR Consultant with Baker Tilly Staples Rodway. Together they will present Mock Mediation – a Practical Case Study
