Join our panel of speakers as they discuss the impact this major rebuild will have on the labour market in Dunedin.

Replacing the existing Dunedin Hospital will involve the single biggest hospital build ever in New Zealand, costing up to $1.4 billion. It will be the most modern hospital in NZ with the estimated floor area of around 100,000 square metres of new build. A project of this magnitude in central Dunedin will have a big impact on the CBD and at its peak there will be up to 1,000 workers on site.

Have you considered what impact will the rebuild have on our labour market? How will we respond to it? Do you have a plan? What the plan should be? What are the timeframes? There are many questions we should be asking ourselves as the city is gearing up for this exciting build.

HRNZ Otago branch brings you this opportunity to hear from key stakeholders and other members of our community, taking a ‘people’ angle.

In this panel discussion, we will hear from the representatives from the Southern District Health Board (Nigel Millar, Chief Medical Officer), University of Otago (Steven Willis, Chief Operating Officer) and Enterprise Dunedin (John Christie, Director) about their perspective on the labour market changes the rebuild will bring.

Following the panel discussion, there will be opportunity to network with other attendees; drinks and nibbles provided.

  • Steve Willis, Chief Operating Officer, University of Otago
  • Nigel Millar, Chief Medical Officer, Southern District Health Board
