Thursday 20 August (11am-5pm)
How do you plan for the future of your workforce, when the future is uncertain? Strategic Workforce Planning is the discipline that allows organisations to make decisions today to identify, build, and support a workforce that is a true enabler of the organisations’ strategy and vision. It involves measuring what’s working (history), understanding where your workforce is heading (trajectory), and making decisions in the face of uncertainty (agility).
Originally a 2-day program, the Strategic Workforce Planning Masterclass has now been converted into a 3-day program, with additional opportunities to apply Strategic Workforce Planning in your organisation as you progress through the curriculum. The program introduces the discipline and principles of Strategic Workforce Planning, provides detailed case studies and examples of each part of the methodology, and demonstrates approaches that will allow the participants to contribute in a very tangible way to organisational success.
Attendees are equipped with the framework and tools to begin a best practise Strategic Workforce Planning initiative in their own organisation, and will have an opportunity to network with peers on the challenges facing modern organisations in a time of unprecedented change.
Attendees will learn how to:
- Align workforce strategy to organisational strategy;
- Identify where targeted HR Initiatives deliver the highest strategic return on investment;
- Perform organisational analysis using workforce analytics;
- Identify and take advantage of the workforce, consumer, and economic dynamics shaping the organisation of tomorrow;
- Exploring alternate futures through strategic futuring and scenario planning;
- Close the gaps between the workforce of today and the preferred workforce of the future; and
- Engage the business in workforce strategy.
The program contains 3 Live Virtual Sessions:
Session 1: Trajectory
In this session, we’ll introduce the Strategic Workforce Planning framework, and deep dive into theSegment and Analyse sections of the framework. Participants will learn how to uncover opportunities and challenges in today’s workforce, successfully segment their workforce to find deep insight, and perform a qualitative analysis of their workforce as it is today.
Session 2: Opportunity
In this session, participants learn the Scan and Explore sections of the framework, applying the principles of Futures Thinking to identify changes in the Future of Work and their organisations, and to create multiple future scenarios.
Session 3: Strategy
In the final session, participants identify their ideal future workforce - the one that is both able to effectively execute today’s strategy, and agile enough to respond to change and uncertainty. They will also explore how to close the gaps between current and future workforce needs, determine actions, and discuss how to structure and communicate the Strategic Workforce Plan.

Testimonials (from the physical course)
"Good balance of theoretical and practical knowledge and I came away with some good ideas to work on. I would recommend it as an excellent way to break down the huge topic of Workforce Planning into a process which can be chunked down and managed." HR Manager, EPA
''I really appreciated Alex's obvious wealth of practical hands-on consulting experience with clients in this area. Great to hear him share some good (and local) stories and experiences. Personable, knowledgeable, and obviously passionate about the topic. I liked that he encouraged our feedback and suggestions. I would recommend to others because Alex knows his stuff, and has a logical, tried and tested approach to Strategic Workforce Planning." Capability Partner, Optimism
"This is the best workshop/ training I have been on in a long time. Not only was the content intellectually stimulating, but I have also been able to apply the principles I have learnt immediately. It really shook up my frame of reference and has changed the way I think about strategy and HR in general. Its easy to get stuck in one perspective and become 'an unconscious competent' when you have been in one discipline for a while. This session absolutely re-inspired me and has changed the way I practice HR." Jess, Media Industry.
"Not only was the information and learning useful and applicable for my organisations challenges, Alex's in depth knowledge of the subject matter and ability to talk across a range of organisational challenges was extremely useful." Human Resources Manager, Metro Glasstech
"I feel privileged to have had access to Alex's time and knowledge. He's fun to listen to, shares information in a way that helps generate insight, and gives pragmatic tools to use. What more can you ask for?" Organisational Development Manager, WEL Networks
