Most New Zealanders will have some mental health issues in their lifetime.

If left undiagnosed or untreated, mental illness can significantly impact on a person's ability to do their job. The World Health Organisation has listed depression as the leading cause of productivity loss worldwide.

In addition to performance and productivity issues, an employer must comply with health and safety and employment laws.

Join us for a one day course for an effective overview of mental health issues, with a focus on anxiety and depression, and how these illnesses change and affect the brain. Discover the impact of learning disabilities and brain injuries on staff members.

This course will help you address mental health issues in the workplace, by understanding mental illness, and early detection. Consider early warning signs of mental illness, and how to approach someone who may have a mental illness.

Comply with employment laws by providing reasonable support to staff with mental health issues. Find out how to help staff returning from longterm absences, and when you can terminate for medical incapacity. Discover how to avoid discrimination under the Human Rights Act 1993, and comply with health and safety law.

This course will explore ways to improve mental health in the workplace. Find out how chronic and undue stress and burnout can affect your top performers. Prevent and address stress and burnout easily and affordably through practical strategies like redesigning jobs and addressing excessive workloads. Consider employee wellbeing programmes and their usefulness.

Julia Shallcrass

Julia Shallcrass is an employment lawyer who specialises in legal education on contemporary workplace issues.

As director of KiwiBoss, she delivers in-house training and public training on HR and people management to help businesses create better workplaces.

Julia is part of the KiwiBoss team that delivers public courses through HRINZ, and in partnership with Auldhouse.

Julia is a regular webinar presenter for CCH Learning, and subject matter expert for Kineo online training.

An appropriate substitute participant is welcome any time before the course starts. Please let us know the replacement's name. If you have booked on a member price and a non member is to attend in your place you will be invoiced for the difference in price.

A refund of fees will be made if a cancellation is received in writing at least 10 working days prior to the commencement of the course.

Regrettably, no refunds can be made for cancellations received after this date and you are liable for the full cost of attendance at the course.
