The Covid-19 event has brought with it an increased acceptance of using technology, as an alternative to face to face meetings. In the employment mediation context, the lockdown saw the mandatory introduction of phone mediations with varying degrees of success. As New Zealand emerges from the lockdown, we anticipate that ‘the new normal’ will include increased use of remote mediations.

The session will cover:

  • Identifying when remote mediation will and will not be appropriate
  • Issues/challenges which can arise when mediating remotely and how to overcome these
  • The logistics of how the remote mediation will run and using technology to your advantage
  • The core components of an effective mediation
  • Tips for dealing with practical scenarios which may arise
