The Canterbury Branch is very excited to provide HR Career Pathways 2020

This event has typically been very successful and this year is no different. We have a fantastic panel with Mary Buckley (co-founder and the Managing Director of Culture by Design), Grigor McDonald (Principal – The Change Office) and Craig Atkinson (Principal Consultant – EQ Consultants). Altogether, they bring a variety of insights into the changing HR landscape.

Everyone’s journey is different and not as straightforward as it first seems. With Kate, Grigor and Craig they will explain their specific pathway and outline how it can be unconventional. All three will bring a contrasting perspective on the following points:

• A brief demographic (education, early jobs etc).

• Motivations around HR work.

• Key career decision points.

• Observations, advice about seeking career advancement to a senior HR role.

This event appeals to a vast audience and really offers great benefits to aspiring HR professionals who are unsure how to kickstart their career.

About our Presenters

Mary Buckley

Mary Buckley is co-founder and the Managing Director of Culture by Design, an organisation based here in Christchurch, NZ.

Mary has a background in operations, Human Resources and executive management and has worked for many years as part of senior executive teams in global organisations. She specialises in organisational, employer-employee psychology and how this relates to organisational culture. Mary’s particular strengths include working with boards and executive teams (including the HR function) to identify strategic core ideology with an envisioned future, then realising that future through the alignment of workplace culture excellence and organisational-wide leadership capability.

Mary holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Master of Science in Organisational Psychology, both from the University of Canterbury. She is a member of both the NZ Psychological Society and the NZ Institute of Organisational Psychology.

Grigor McDonald

Grigor is an experienced people focused professional, who enjoys the opportunities provided in dynamic, challenging environments. He has significant experience in people development, change management, group facilitation, and learning and development roles, and his career has not followed a ‘traditional’ HR pathway. He brings a positive and realistic approach to supporting the growth of people and his background allows him to confidently assist in an organisation’s advancement.

Craig Atkinson

Craig is a Principal Consultant with EQ Consultants. Along with the outdoors, Craig’s passion is working with senior management to positively influence business outcomes.

With over 25 years of highly successful general management roles with market leaders in New Zealand, Australia and Europe, Craig has extensive strategic and operational experience.

Working across a wide range of companies, he has developed tactical skills enabling him to effectively assist large multi-million dollar companies as well as smaller organisations in the SME sector. Past roles include General Manager (NZ & Australia) for an international HR and Recruitment company, going on to also manage that organisation in Russia. This has resulted in Craig being well experienced in the challenges that come with managing companies in a foreign environment and has developed a national reputation for providing his clients with pragmatic and effective strategies to address their HR challenges.

Whether scaling mountains worldwide or providing assistance to his clients, Craig understands the need to implement and maintain solid 'best practice' procedures and policies in order to remain competitive, safe and market leaders.

Cancellations and Refunds

To receive a full refund cancellations must be received by HRNZ by email to [email protected] two working days before the day of the event.

Cancellations after this time and/or 'no shows' on the day will be payable in full.
