An opportunity presents to support the Customer Operations Group which comprises Fulton Hogan and Wellington Water staff within Wellington Water. This group comprises people supporting the community by providing safe waters, repairing the pipes, ensuring the drainage and stormwater systems are working, and the like. The group also includes the Customer Hub (i.e., managing incoming calls from councils about issues), an engineering team, and a performance team.

They are looking for a dynamic and experienced business partner to support this group by providing high-quality operational human resources services and support.

Aspects of this role will include:

  • Providing both strategic and operational human resources advice primarily for the Customer Operations group
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of people and culture related strategies across Wellington Water that increase organisational capability
  • Advising on best practice approaches for people related activities
  • Business partnering with managers and team leaders to chart the best course of action
  • Problem solving and recommending solutions to people related issues
  • Implementing improvements to increase employee engagement
  • Contributing to and supporting managers to plan organisational change
  • Providing direction and guidance to a small team
  • Leading the end-to-end recruitment of high-value positions for the group
  • Managing employment issues that arise
  • Establishing and maintaining solid relationships at all levels within the group
  • Undertaking projects as applicable

We are looking at selecting an exceptional Senior People & Capability Business Partner with:

  • Solid strategic and operational human resources experience
  • Seasoned experience in working with leaders on HR related matters
  • Strong generalist with up-to-date human resources knowledge of New Zealand employment law and practices
  • The ability to influence and engage in driving initiatives that contribute to the overall capability of the group
  • The ability to interpret and understand complex issues and provide appropriate solutions using sound judgment
  • Good relationship skills across all levels
  • Strong planning, organisational and time management skills
  • Experience working in a collective environment
  • Understanding of te au Māori
  • A tertiary qualification in human resources
  • A driver’s licence
  • Previous people leadership experience (desired)
  • An understanding of HRIS systems (Workday) (desired)
  • Chartered professional membership of HRNZ (preferred)

This role reports to the Manager People and Capability, Wellington Water.
