Senior People and Capability Advisor - Southland District Council

Information

Are you ready for a challenge in 2022?  Something that will have you leaping out of bed in the mornings in anticipation of the day ahead.  We have just the opportunity for you.

Southland District Council has a rare opportunity for a senior people and capability advisor to join our small team who is passionate about supporting and developing our team of 200 to do their best work and deliver for our communities.

We have responsibility for 11% of the land area of New Zealand and incorporate beautiful areas such as Stewart Island/Rakiura,  Te Anau,  Milford Sound Piopiotahi, Riverton and the Catlins. Now more than ever we are grateful for our special place in the world and are committed to ensuring we are working together for a better Southland and delivering on our responsibilities as the kaitiaki for future generations.

The world of local government is dynamic, change is ongoing in all areas of our business but with this brings opportunity.  As our senior people and capability advisor you will play an integral role by providing coaching, support and advice across the organisation. You will enjoy variety and thrive with ambiguity, showcasing your experience and skills across an end-to-end employee experience and people and capability portfolios.

As you would expect our wishlist is long.  Our ideal candidate will be the type of person that others trust, a facilitator who helps build connections up down and sideways, observationally aware of yourself and others and someone who believes in the power of high performing teams and a healthy culture.

You will also be able to demonstrate:

  • a pragmatic and consistent communication style with the confidence to collaborate effectively at all levels of the business
  • a track record of building high trust relationships and productive partnerships which reflects your integrity
  • alignment to our values of working together, being proud to belong, working smarter and creating opportunities
  • delivering employment relations support, advice and solutions
  • a broad understanding of business drivers and levers
  • a commitment to continuous learning and professional development
  • developing and delivering innovative people-focussed projects that embed and reinforce a positive culture, continuous business improvement and a great employee experience
  • a keen sense of humour and a high degree of resilience and tenacity

In return we believe that staff are our most valuable asset and we are committed to supporting them in every way possible to help them realise their potential.  We offer ongoing training and development, competitive remuneration packages which are benchmarked against market rates.

We have lifestyle covered too.  Our head office is based in Invercargill but live in the city, at the beach with views of the mountains or on your own rural paradise.  You choose.  You can be 10 minutes from your home, work, sport, your kid’s school concert or a meal in our award winning cafes.  In two hours you can be on the ski slopes or tramping in the bush or enjoying bigger city attractions.  Southland offers superb lifestyle and recreational opportunities, world-class sports facilities, affordable housing and high quality educational choices.  And best of all you’ll have the time to enjoy it.

If this sounds like the opportunity you have been waiting for don’t delay – visit our website www.southlanddc.govt.nz/vacancies to download a position description and apply today.
