Our postgraduate workplace health and safety programme gives students the skills to advise and support all levels of an organization in the overall task of preventing, mitigating, monitoring, and responding to health and safety risks. What size business or organisation does your product/ service suit?

Our programmes are suited to organisations of any size that need to lift capability in workplace health and safety.

What kinds of organisations may be interested in your product/ service?

Health and safety is a key consideration for all workplaces. Our course content covers topics ranging from the principles of health and safety management; identifying, assessing, and controlling hazards and risks; occupational health and hygiene; and leadership in health and safety.

Organisations and employees can build a programme of study that builds capability in the right areas.

How long has your product/ service been on the market?

Our programmes launched in 2019 as part of Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington’s Faculty of Health.

Professor Joanne Crawford leads our programme with more than 35 years of experience in the field. She is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors. Joanne is joined by Dr Chris Peace, who has over 50 years of experience largely in risk management, and Dr Danaë Anderson, an expert in health and safety research.

What does your standard product cost?

Students can choose to take a single course in a specialized area, or undertake a set of courses to gain a postgraduate certificate, postgraduate diploma, or full Master’s degree.

Check our website for up-to-date course fees.

Is your product an off the shelf solution, or does it require customisation?

Students of our workplace health and safety programmes choose from a set range of courses as part of their qualification.

Students can also choose to select a few specialist workplace health and safety courses and combine these with courses in other areas such business, human resources, management, or government via a Postgraduate Certificate in Professional Studies.

How long does your product take to implement? How does customisation impact this?

Full-time students can complete a postgraduate certificate in half a year, a postgraduate diploma in one short year, or a full Master’s degree in one longer year.

Part-time students can complete a postgraduate certificate in one short year, a postgraduate diploma in one and half years, or a full Master’s degree in two years.

Single courses take place over half a year.

Our courses are delivered through block courses (intensive class time over a few days) and online so students can join us from outside of Wellington and fit their study around work commitments.

What is your post-implementation support? Are there costs to this or is the up-front cost inclusive of additional support?

Students have access to student support provided by the University. This includes specific support for postgraduate students, student health and counselling, crèche, financial support and advice, rainbow and inclusion services, library services, prayer rooms, recreation centre (gym), student learning, and disability services. A range of services are covered by your student levy fees.
