Charlene Birkenstock APHRNZ

What led you to a career in HR/ the position that you are in currently?

I was drawn to HR because I have always enjoyed working with people and helping them reach their goals and potential. Over the years, I have naturally progressed into my current role where I can support both employee's progression and business goals and strategy. I am so privileged to collaborate and work with an amazing team.

What do you love about working in HR?

I love being able to make a positive difference in the workplace, whether it is helping someone grow and develop in their career or creating a better work environment and culture for everyone.

What is an achievement so far in your career that you are proud of?

I am very proud that I completed my Masters Degree in Industrial Psychology where the focus was on examining the role of gender in the relationship of work-family conflict with work engagement and burnout. Further to this was to examine the main effect of work-family conflict on work engagement and burnout and to investigate the moderating role of social support.

What are your thoughts on the Accredited Professional Member process?

I think it is a great way to solidify your experience and show commitment to growing in the HR field.

Do you plan to now work towards becoming a Chartered Member?

Yes, it is the next step in my professional journey and I am excited to continue growing and learning.

What are your next steps in terms of your career?

I am aiming to take on more responsibilities in leadership where I can have a bigger influence on shaping company culture and supporting people.
