What led you to a career in HR/ the position that you are in currently?

I had the opportunity to learn about what a career in HR could look like while in my final years of school. The idea of being able to make a direct impact of people’s lives and careers had me instantly hooked and I have truthfully never looked back! I graduated from Victoria University of Wellington with a Bachelor of Commence majoring in Human Resources, International Business and Commercial Law and I was fortunate enough to commence my career within the realm of recruitment. Since then, I've had the privilege of working in various HR roles across different industries, each offering unique opportunities to grow and refine my skillset and these experiences have led me to my current role as an HR Consultant.

What do you love about working in HR?

What I love about working in HR is the ability to make a substantial impact every day. Engaging in every phase of an employee’s journey allows each day to be unique and offers infinite development opportunities while making a positive difference. At its core, HR is people focussed, it’s about creating an environment where employees can thrive, grow, and enjoy each day at work. Whether you are assisting a manager with a tricky employment matter, implementing strategic initiatives or supporting an employee to achieve their goals, HR allows you to turn challenges into opportunities and achieve business objectives with a people centric approach.

What is an achievement so far in your career that you are proud of?

Throughout my HR journey, I have had the absolute privilege of being exposed to a wide array of opportunities and challenges throughout the HR function whilst having phenomenal and unwavering support from my managers, mentors and colleagues. Within my role as an HR Consultant, a significant achievement for me has been having the opportunity to partner with a variety of businesses and succeed in delivering positive and tangible outcomes whilst fostering trusted relationships. I have also recently achieved my Private Investigators Licence which is an aspect of Employment Relations that I am extremely passionate about and I look forward to continuing to grow and develop in this area.

The Accredited Professional Member process was super straightforward and motivating. It is also a great opportunity to be reflective and look back at all that has been achieved to date.

Do you plan to now work towards becoming a Chartered Member?

Most definitely!  I have already started taking the initial steps towards achieving this goal with the help of the HRNZ professional pathway.

What are your next steps in terms of your career?

I am very lucky to be a part of an amazing team who are a wealth of knowledge so I plan to capture as much knowledge and exposure as possible whilst continuing to enhance my skills and expereince. I aim to also take on greater responsibility and continue to embrace new challenges that push me beyond my comfort zone.
