What led you to a career in HR/ the position that you are in currently?
I moved into HR organically as a second career. I am thrilled to find myself in this newfound vocation. Improving work experiences is truly rewarding. Working as an HR advisor in Manufacturing, I enjoy the good, honest, and resilient environment that exists within this sector. It is a sector of people willing to share their passions, stories, and knowledge candidly.
What do you love about working in HR?
I thrive on the positive impact you make on others’ lives. I enjoy listening to individuals’ stories and providing solutions that work for everyone. I am constantly encouraged by the ability to make progressive and visible change. Navigating complex business choices for positive outcomes is mentally stimulating and gratifying.
What is an achievement so far in your career that you are proud of?
I enjoyed working with the Ministry of Education to build a new industry-wide school programme. This enables students to gain work experience in our industry with NZQA credits, opening careers opportunities for youths.
What are your thoughts on the Emerging Professional Member process?
The process of becoming an Emerging Professional made me think about what truly matters in HR and organisations. It made me consider my values and beliefs and how they reflect in my engagement with others within the workplace.
I am proud to be an Emerging HR professional. It has given me confidence as an HR advisor. It confirms my knowledge and skills are of value within my workplace.
Do you plan to now work towards becoming a Chartered Member?
Chartered membership is a great learning tool that aids self-acknowledgement of your strengths and weaknesses. The questions encourage personal reflection on your knowledge, skills and ability and highlight areas you can improve.
It is ideal to benchmark yourself against a standard. Obtaining a Chartered membership gives you the confidence in knowing your capability is at a professional level.
What are your next steps in terms of your career?
I hope to continue learning, improving, and making a difference in the HR space.
