Michelle Collett APHRNZ
What led you to a career in HR / the position that you are in currently?
I fell into a payroll role 20 plus years ago as I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do after I finished up my career in hairdressing, A role came up with New Zealand Defence force and I decided to apply for it, this started my career in payroll. After 24 years working in payroll being part of HR teams, I really liked the idea of using my experience around legislation and the employee life cycle. I felt I had done my time running and leading payrolls it was time to branch out and use my other skills.
I landed a role with Careerforce as their People and Capability Coordinator / Payroll lead, even though there is still an element of payroll within this role I have been able to spend most of my time doing HR tasks. I have been involved in numerous P&C projects and have been able to lead some of these pieces of work. I have been fortunate enough to be able to attend numerous HRNZ course to also further my knowledge.
