What led you to a career in HR/ the position that you are in currently?

I have had a varied and thoroughly enjoyable career in and out of HR. The skills, knowledge and experience that I have gained through my profession transcend across all of the mahi I do. It started with a deep passion for employment relations at University. I have since worked across all areas of HR including leadership and governance, as well as business consulting and now as the Director of my own business as a personal and professional coach and consultant specialising in change.

What do you love about working in HR?

HR is about designing for people, with people, by people. I love that HR offers us an opportunity to be courageous, curious and to help others navigate and solve complex challenges. It is an area of constant learning and growth.

Are there any specific highlights of your career that you wish to share?

My greatest highlights are in the seemingly small moments of impact. It's in the korero, the sharing of ideas and information and in growing others.

What are your thoughts on Chartered Membership? How do you feel about being a Chartered Member?

Chartered membership pushes us to continue to invest in our own growth and learning as seasoned professionals. Our world and profession are changing rapidly, so chartering for me is a no brainer.

What motivated you to work towards becoming a Chartered Member?

It wasn't the letters! I was invited to charter and in the process help my colleagues at HRNZ shape and test the upgraded chartering process. I love an opportunity to shape our profession, so it was a win win!

What are your next steps in terms of your career now that you are a Chartered Member?

Chartering is a means to engage and ignite action across our seasoned professionals to shape, grow and professionalise our industry so that it is impactful today, and future fit and sustainable for tomorrow.
