What led you to a career in HR/ the position that you are in currently?

Although I didn’t know it at the time, my career in HR started at Otago University while studying Anthropology and Archaeology. The study of people and culture fascinated me and when I entered the workforce, I was driven by a deep commitment to fostering a positive culture where individuals can excel in their chosen profession, leading me down the path into HR.
I have a passion for coaching and developing people and I felt HR offered the natural step towards being a more impactful leader where both the people and the business succeed in a sustainable way.

What do you love about working in HR?

What I love most about working in HR is the opportunity to shape and nurture a diverse and inclusive workplace culture. Every day, I have the pleasure of engaging with individuals from different backgrounds, harness their unique perspectives, and create an environment where everyone can thrive and find meaning in their everyday.
I love how HR has provided me the opportunity to demonstrate my skillset of coaching, facilitating, and creating meaningful moments for leaders and employees alike. Each day presents a new challenge or situation that is unique and the process of approaching each with a curious mindset facilitates continuous opportunities to learn and make a positive impact.

Are there any specific highlights of your career that you wish to share?

One of the highlights of my career that I’m particularly proud of is creating and launching a company-wide holistic wellbeing programme. Recognising the growing importance of mental and physical health in not just the workplace but in our people’s everyday lives, I led the creation of a comprehensive wellbeing programme tailored to our employees' needs. Seeing firsthand how investing in employee wellbeing not only enhanced individual lives but also contributed to a more positive and productive work environment was incredibly rewarding. This experience reinforced my passion for creating cultures where employees feel supported and valued, and it remains one of my proudest achievements in HR.
