Katie Delaveau APHRNZ

What led you to a career in HR/ the position that you are in currently?

I had an interest in Psychology but I couldn’t see myself working in the field so I looked into other job opportunities and landed on HR. I studied a conjoint degree at AUT majoring in Psychology and Human Resources during which I did a short internship at The Warehouse Group. I’ve now returned to The Warehouse Group as an HR Business Partner and love the culture!

What do you love about working in HR?

Right now I’m enjoying coaching leaders and enabling them to confidently run people processes.

What is an achievement so far in your career that you are proud of?

For me it’s about the small wins. I aim to champion the HR function as an enabler and a partner in achieving business goals and I think this shows up in how I relate to leaders. Changing mindsets around how and where HR can add value is really rewarding and the thanks I receive from leaders makes it all worth it!

What are your thoughts on the Emerging Professional Member process?

Very straightforward and achievable, It’s been a good reminder of where I am and where I can develop further.

Do you plan to now work towards becoming a Chartered Member?

Yes, I think it’s a great way to hold yourself accountable as an HR professional.

What are your next steps in terms of your career?

Leading and influencing within my space! I’ve worked with some great HR professionals who have taught me a lot (and continue to do so), I aim to do the same for others as I continue to develop.
