What led you to a career in HR/ the position that you are in currently?

I have always been career driven and started studying small business management at 16! This lead me to develop a passion for HR where I ended up specialising at the University of Waikato. After spending several years working in HR for a complex DHB, I was ready to join a business that offered variety in work, complexity and exposure to several industries and business sizes. Luckily for me, MyHR were hiring and the rest is history.

What do you love about working in HR?

In HR you truly have the opportunity to make a difference, whether it is to the organisational culture, solving complex problems or coaching and educating managers on best practise HR and Employment Law.

What are your thoughts on the Emerging Professional Member process?

The process seemed daunting at first but the CPD points quickly add up and before you know it, you’re eligible to apply which is just a simple application form.

Do you plan to now work towards becoming a Chartered Member?

Definitely! Becoming an Emerging Professional is only a stepping stone for me to become a highly qualified and respected HR practitioner. I plan to immediately begin working towards becoming an HRNZ Chartered Member.

What are your next steps in terms of your career?

I’m currently an HR Business Partner with MyHR and as I grow and develop, I intend to move into a Senior HR role ideally with an employment relations focus.
