GD - Senior Human Resources Consultant, Wellington
About
Kia ora,
My interest in human resources came through my experience in my trade where I saw how management and unions interacted. I became a Labour Inspector which further developed my skills in health and safety; employment relations and dispute settlements (negotiating, mediating).
I then went onto become a Human Resource Generalist and have over the years worked in the Public sector and private sector.
This saw me working for management to create better workplaces and support managers mentor and develop their staff. I then moved into line management myself as I wanted to take HR to the frontline. I believe that line managers should be the first line of HR advice and action with their staff. Line managers should be confident in 101 HR & ER.
I took a particular interest in performance management and I have now branched out into HR & ER consulting to private industry. I cover a range of businesses from small building companies to medium civil engineering through to a large nationwide delivery company. I also work on occasions in Govt agencies.
I hold a Diploma in Industrial Relations from Victoria University of Wellington however my experience in the field out ways my academic gains in life. It is my view that the role of an HR Advisor is to develop confidence and knowledge in the manager of people who in turn will develop confidence & capability of their staff. Together we build better workplaces.
