Mental Health Awareness Week: 23 – 29 September 2024

In support of our own community here at HRNZ we have come up with a schedule of events where those who are available gather with an opportunity to form new connections and build on those already existing all with a view in maintaining good mental health and human connections.

We are social creatures, and we need people around us more than ever.  Even those that need less human connection than some, a safe environment and opportunity to connect with likeminded people we hope will deliver a great experience all. We aim for these to be outdoors over an hour.

Day 1: Nature Walk in Cornwall Park
A stroll through Cornwall Park is one of the coolest things you can do in Auckland.
For the first day of Mental Health Awareness Week (MHAW) we invite you to start your week with Mathew who will be facilitating an informal and self-paced walk around some of the park’s best features, giving you the opportunity to witness the arrival of Spring first hand.
We will look to keep moving for at least 1 hour (don’t worry, we won't be scaling One Tree Hill!) followed with a pit stop at one of the café’s situated in the grounds.
Why do this?
It is a real energiser to start your week and it will hopefully serve to become a place you’ll revisit in future if you are feeling down.  Walking and absorbing yourself in nature has been known to inspire creative thinking, promoting feelings of inner calm and reconnection with taiao.
If you have never considered bird spotting as a hobby before, you’ll get the chance to start if you feel like trying to spot over 30 types ranging from pheasants, parrots to guinea fowl! Guide to help you can be found through the link below.
