MAS - Why we are partnering with HRNZ

Medical Assurance Society (MAS) is excited to partner with HRNZ...

In 1921, in the wake of the Spanish flu pandemic, a group of doctors in Napier got together to form a mutual insurance company.

One hundred years on, in the midst of another pandemic, the company they formed – MAS – continues to support New Zealand’s professionals.

Things have moved on a bit since our mutual was established – for one thing, we’ve opened our doors to all professionals including HR practitioners – but the founding principle of supporting the communities within which our Members work and live continues to guide our work.

As well as providing excellent insurance and outstanding customer service, we’ve always looked for ways to form long-lasting relationships with our Members and the professional bodies to which they belong.

That’s why we’re excited about our partnership with Human Resources New Zealand. At MAS, we believe strongly in the important of diverse and inclusive workforces. We practise this in our own workplace, and we were a finalist for the Diversity Awards NZ in 2020. But we also believe in the importance of equitable outcomes for everyone in our society, which is why we established a philanthropic arm – the MAS Foundation – to help community groups based in previously marginalised and underserved communities in New Zealand.

We undertake this work because we’re driven to inspire a healthier New Zealand through the insurance and investments we provide to Kiwis.

Our Health and Wellbeing Portal is one example of this intention in action but so too is our Responsible Investment Strategy, which guides how we invest our Members’ KiwiSaver funds; our establishment of the MAS Foundation to support underserved communities; and our sponsorship of events like Wellington’s Brendan Foot Supersite Round the Bays.

We’re looking forward to working with HRNZ and its members. If you want to find out more about how we can help you, please give us a call on 0800 800 627, or you can email [email protected] or via our website www.mas.co.nz/contact.
