We recently surveyed HRNZ Members about sustainability practices within their respective organisations.  We were interested to know the extent to which organisations have sustainability as a core element of their strategy, how involved HR professionals are in sustainability initiatives and what HR related initiatives were most prevalent.

HRNZ views sustainability through a broad lens with reference to the UN Sustainable Development Goals [SDG’s].  It is through this lens that the importance of HR professionals to successful sustainability initiatives becomes most apparent.

Only 15% of our respondents reported that their organisations had sustainability plans that directly linked to the SDG’s and more than half reported little or no awareness of these goals within their organisations.

We see an opportunity for building greater awareness of the SDG’s and even greater relevance of them in a post-Covid world.
