New in 2025, this one-day workshop is for people who are responsible for leading and managing others and who want to be confident that their Human Resources (HR) practice is legally compliant, and that their leadership of others is effective. Whether new to the people leader role or looking for a refresher this course covers the essential areas of HR that people leaders encounter day-to-day. The focus is on the ‘good faith’ principle of fair, open and honest people leadership.
This interactive workshop covers:
Key legislation relating to HR practice
Hiring good employees
Supporting employees (setting expectations, coaching & feedback)
Employee wellbeing (including bullying and harassment)
Managing performance issues and misconduct
Managing change in the workplace
What to expect
HR Essentials is a highly practical workshop that includes group discussions and activities.
You will receive a booklet, either hard copy or pdf, which you can use to take notes on the day and be able to reference after the course.
Who is this course for?
This workshop is for people leaders for whom HR is just one part of their role. It is ideal for experienced managers who want to revise and update their skills, and for those starting in a people leader role or preparing for this next step in their career. It may also suit those who have responsibility for HR as part of a broader role e.g. Corporate Services Manager.
This programme is not designed for HR professionals. For HR practitioners in delivery or advisory roles HRNZ offers a three-day programme called ‘HR Foundations - Fundamentals for HR Mastery’ (more details on those sessions on the PD page)
This course can be run in-house
The workshop can be delivered virtually or in-person and can be incorporated into an existing leadership development programme within an organisation.
Enquiries for in-house workshops are welcome and we’re happy to work with your needs.
